He pointed that after the Pulwama suicide attack, Prime Minister Imran Khan had offered to Indian side to provide actionable intelligence instead of levelling allegations and that Pakistan will take action accordingly. On Wednesday, Indian Ministry for External Affairs stated that a dossier was handed over to Pakistan side "with specific details of JeM complicity in the Pulwama terror attack and the presence of JeM terror camps and its leadership in Pakistan" through Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan who was summoned in New Delhi.
"It was conveyed that India expects Pakistan to take immediate and verifiable action against terrorism emanating from territories under its control," the Indian external affairs ministry further stated. Dr Faisal said that Pakistan is ready for dialogue with India on all issues including terrorism, adding that the issue of Kashmir is the core one and will always be integral to any such dialogue.
He said that Pakistan is a peaceful country and desires peace in the region. However, he also made it clear that Pakistan's desire for peace should not be construed as its weakness, adding that if war is imposed on Pakistan, it will respond to it with full force.
About escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, he said that the UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) has been activated and the group will be taken for a visit to the site where the Indian Air Force (IAF) jets were shot down.
To a question about the statements by some countries favouring Indian stance, he said, "We have seen the statements and also conveyed our point of view." He said that Pakistan on its part apprised the international community that even if there is any terrorist outfit to be acted against, there is nothing in international law that allows for such territorial aggression.
"How could you justify an aggression by a country against any other sovereign country and which international law allows such action even if it is against any terror outfit? Legitimising any such attack without evidence under the pretext of terrorism is akin to moving towards chaos," he stated while commenting on the statements by some countries in favour of the Indian aggression in Balakot.
He said Pakistan has comprehensively acted to root out terrorism from its soil under the National Action Plan (NAP) and an effective implementation on the NAP is currently under way.
Reiterating that Prime Minister Modi is heightening the tension for election gains, he said that there are voices from within India that the policies of Prime Minister Modi are pushing the entire region towards destruction.
To another question about the invitation extended by the OIC to Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as guest of honour to inaugural session of its meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers in the UAE today (Friday), the spokesperson said that Foreign Minister Qureshi has already stated it in categorical terms that "he will not be attending the OIC meeting if Sushma is there."
Asked if OIC platform could be used for peace diplomacy to deescalate the tension between the two countries, the spokesperson insisted that Pakistan is ready for talks anytime but not in the OIC.
"How could a country be invited and talks with that country be possible when it is not even not recognising the OIC and its various resolutions on Kashmir?" he asked. To another question, he said that Pakistan has been approached by a number of friendly countries in the wake of escalating tension with India. However, he made it clear that Pakistan is not looking for any other country for its defence. "We are only looking to our Armed Forces and the people of Pakistan for the country's defence against any foreign aggression," he said. He also stated that various countries have offered mediation between Pakistan and India, adding that Pakistan welcomes the offer of mediations.
